The use of charisma in dealing with merchants, and disguising what is real vs fake allows the rogue the ability to bluff the value of an item he or she wishes to sell or buy.
hopefully haggling the cost of the sale into the rogues favor by lowering the cost of a buy, or raising the preceived value of an item.
For ecxample swindling otis into believing the large topaz of poor quality is of flawless quality and buying it at that hightened price rather than its actual value.
There would be the chance that the farse would be detected and the merchant would get angery. perhaps even attack the rogue or call the guards.
